IDRIS: TANZANIA’S NEW MILLIONAIRE
By Lizy Ngowi
“I want to be a billionaire so quick and bad, buy all the things I never had”, with prevailing life’s challenges so many people specifically young are dreaming of getting rich fast and in any way possible. Well, if they are qualified enough they should try the biggest reality television show in Africa “The Big Brother Africa”.
Big Brother Africa season 9 has just ended and for the first time Tanzania has taken the top spot. In this year’s contest Tanzania sent two people to represent the nation. Idris Sultan a 21 year old, photographer by profession has just landed in the group of millionaires in Tanzania taking 300,000 US dollars equivalent to more than 500 million Tanzania shillings.

IDRIS SULTAN
After a couple of failed attempts to win the Big Brother prize with the likes of Mwisho Mwampamba, Bhoke Egina, Lotus, Julio and Laveda. Richard Bezuedenhdout walked away with the grand prize of 100,000 US Dollars in Big Brother Africa season 2 and Idris makes the count to two.  Seems like Idris will buy not all the things he never had but likely he will be able to buy many things he wanted.
63 days at the Big Brother house in South Africa exposed the Tanzanian to the rest of Africa which in turn earned him votes from five African countries against two that Tayo the fellow finalist gained. Being the only East African contender to enter the final round of the reality show, Idris gained a lot of support from East Africans who acted on the regional basis to vote for him.
“LADIES MAN”
The young, ambitious and good looking Idris had his eyes on ladies and apparently he did not try once to conceal his motive in the house. “I am here for ladies”, his ambitions were quite successful landing three girls on his lap in just 63 days they stayed together.
His relationship with Ugandan Ellah, Goetse from Botswana and Samanth Jansen from South Africa did not tarnish his image instead gained him a lot of fans.

“I want to be that guy all these people in the house would be coming to when they just want to be inspired feel down or they feel like they want fun rush”
IDRIS WINS, EAST AFRICA APPLAUDS
It was not just Tanzanian’s win but East Africa joined hands and applauded the Big Brother Hotshot Idris Sultan. International music group based in Kenya Sauti Sol tweeted “YEEEES!!! FINALLY !!! $300,000 cash prize for BigBroAfrica #BBAHotShots comes to East Africa ! Congratulations to our bro IdrisSultan !!”
Votes from 5 nations that is Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda finalized the competition crowning Idris the winner while Nigerian Tayo who entered the final received votes from two nations.
Big Brother Africa is more than a game, it exposes the contestants wit challenges and tasks which in turn attracts voters.
"It hasn't settled in yet that I won. It's a lot of money and I need to think really hard what I'm going to do with it. I know I want to give back to Africa though." Idris said in an interview.
“To all those young people who are giving up just tell them to look up to me. You see, am big now” Big Brother Hotshot winner commented giving hopes to those who are feeling down.

The life’s curtain has just pulled down and the light is shining brighter to the funny, humble and talented Idris. It is the beginning of the journey, it’s a lot of money and hopefully the 21 year old will put it into a good use. Congrats Idris, you represented Tanzania well.
